Day events in Leitrim which will be part of a bigger food festival programme promoting slow food in 2020
This season we are celebrating Taste the Island with a host of food and drink celebrations throughout Leitrim. Taste the Island will showcase the very best of Ireland’s food and drink culture. In Leitrim we are showing our appreciation by using seasonal ingredients, taking guided walks, meandering in the hills and Foraging with Leitrim Landscapes.

The Organic Centre
Thanksgiving in Rossinver, Leitrim

Thanksgiving Supper Club – Organic Centre, Rossinver
Thursday, November 28th 7pm – 10pm (€35PPS – Booking Essential)
Our amazing student, Yugi Shimobayashi who worked with us last year during his VTECT level 5, will return for one night only and discuss the method of his “Shojin Ryori” which is a Buddhist style of cooking. While the name—and the specific foods on offer—varies by country, the Buddhist belief of ahimsa, or non-violence toward living things, is a shared one across cultures and with it, comes a type of enhanced dining experience.

Taste The Island
Organic Centre

Foraging with Leitrim Landscapes – Organic Centre, Rossinver
Saturday 30th November 11am – 3pm (€45 PPS – Booking Essential)
Start the day with a walk and forage with Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walk’s around Fowley’s Falls. Enjoy a coffee and a mid-morning snack en route, provided by the award winning Organic Centre. You will end your walking adventure at the Organic Centre where you will be treated to a lunch or an outdoor picnic with some delicious delights supplied by chef Gaby. In the afternoon you will take part in an activity in the gardens of The Organic Centre with vegetable tasting tour and cookery demonstration.

Celebrating our heritage dish through poetry, music, song and dance in The Dock from 12 – 7pm
* Meet the Leitrim Boxty producers and sample their delicious goods!
* View our exhibition of Folklore Essays, read the archives, view the paraphernalia relating to Boxty making
* Tell us your Boxty stories; share your Boxty making memories with us

Nature, Nourishment and Verse – Glencar TeaShed
Sunday 27th October (Booking Essential Call Nuala 087 917 2143)
Enjoy a gentle meander in the hills above Glencar with Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks and Glencar TeaShed. The pristine landscape which inspired Yeats’ poetry will inspire us to share some verse with you that celebrate the importance of food in our lives and history. In turn, you are invited to share your food verses. When you’ve worked up an appetite we will descend to the acclaimed Glencar TeaShed for a wonderful lunch of local produce.
* Lunch includes chicken salad or vegetarian quiche with salad, cup of soup and filtered coffee or tea
* Walk will be slow paced with a climb at the start and on paths for most of the route with some cross country.
* Walking boots and waterproof jacket required.
Duration: 2.5 – 3 hour guided walk and lunch for €27.50
